Becoming resilient: What is Neuroplasticity?

Updated: Oct 9, 2019

Thanks to neuroplasticity our blue print is open to endless reviews.

Our #mind is like a child. As it grows it learns to develop #boundaries and operate within socially accepted conventions like #language, #space, #time and #cultural practices. It also learns to #detect and avoid #danger, partake in #fine and #gross motor operations, as well establish a myriad of overlapping and #complex social #relations.

Through a myriad of #experiences and #socialisation the mind slowly becomes self aware and eventually self regulating based on a #psychological blue print for survival. Developed from "trial and error" and grounded in survival #probability, it’s against this all #decisions, #expectations and #judgements are made. Every single person has their own unique psychological blue print. Some are well #developed like a full-bodied wine, and others are #simplistic and limited. Our ability to survive rests in our capacity to change our blue print when it no longer serves us.

Even after injury our brain has the amazing capacity to rewire itself.

Darwin once said “It is not the most intellectual of the #species that survives; it is not the strongest that survives; but the species that survives is the one that is able to adapt to and to adjust best to the changing #environment in which it finds itself.” A balanced #diet of broad information and #experiences from a wide variety of #sources and disciplines is critical in #growing and maintaining a #healthy mind for today and the future.
