Precious stones: Where do diamonds come from?

Updated: Oct 29, 2019

Diamonds are one of the most precious #gem #stones on Earth. Highly treasured and often usen in #engagement rings, Diamonds have become a symbol of #commitment, #loyatly and #love. Here are some interesting #facts you may not know about them.

#Diamonds are certified and graded on #four characteristics.

1. #Carat - relating to the stones weight: 1ct = 0.2g.

2. #Cut - relating to the stones form (not shape): proportion, symmetry and polish.

3. #Colour - relating to the stones colouration: rated from D (white) to Z (amber).

4. #Clarity - relating to the stones blemishes and imperfections.

#Diamonds are NOT formed from #coal. While both coal and diamonds are both allotropes of Carbon (C), it’s not a case of one leads to the other. In fact, some diamonds even predate the period when organic matter existed on #Earth. Diamonds are known to come from #four sources; deep within the Earth's #mantel, #subduction zones between #tectonic #plates, #impact #zones from #asteroids and from #meteors within our universe.

Diamonds are found deep within the Earth's crust.
